Lenormand or Tarot: choosing a starting point

Yi’s 36 Lenormand cards begin with everyday images and connections between circumstances. Its 22 upright Tarot Major Arcana invite another perspective through figures, gestures and scenes. This describes Yi’s practice, without treating the two traditions as an interchangeable deck.

Use cards for reflection, not prediction. Cards offer a starting point for reflection. Check the facts and make your own decisions.

Two catalogs, two starting points

Yi’s 36 Lenormand cards begin with everyday images and connections between circumstances. Its 22 upright Tarot Major Arcana invite another perspective through figures, gestures and scenes. This describes Yi’s practice, without treating the two traditions as an interchangeable deck.

Spread size and attention

Lenormand offers one, three, five, nine or 36 cards; Tarot offers one or three. If you simply want to find a question, start with one card in either catalog. A large spread needs more observation time. Adding cards does not guarantee a more complete conclusion.

Both return to your judgment

Instead of asking which deck is more accurate, ask which images help you describe your present circumstances. Turn a useful observation into a question, check facts, study the classics in Yi and record a decision. On review, compare your earlier judgment with what you actually did.

From an observation to a decision

  1. Question
  2. Observe (optional)
  3. Cast
  4. Interpret
  5. Decide
  6. Review

Choose an observation that matters to you and turn it into an open question. In Yi, start a cast yourself, study its classical sources, record your decision and return to review it. Cards provide context; they do not select a hexagram.
